We’re currently in week three of a five-week national lockdown due to Covid-19 and social media is flooded with images of people cooking and baking up a storm. People are spending hours upon hours in their kitchens to keep themselves busy and their loved ones fed.
Now is also the time, people will realise the imperfections of their kitchens. Some people will return to normal after the lockdown is lifted while others might continue to experiment with new recipes with their newfound love of cooking or baking. If you’re part of the latter, you’ll be spending more time in your kitchen and you might want to make a few changes to enhance the experience.
Important Elements Of A Functional Kitchen Design
Work Triangle
To create the most efficient workflow in your kitchen, it’s essential to design your kitchen in a way that connects all points of the work triangle: Sink, stove and refrigerator. Keep the path clutter-free between these items or consider adding a kitchen island to help create the triangle.
Food Prep Space
Make sure you have enough space to prepare food. If your kitchen countertops are cluttered with appliances, consider storing them out of plain sight but not too far that it will make them inconvenient to use. The perfect solution for adding workspace is a kitchen island.
Storage Space
Too little storage space can make the cooking process more challenging. If you have to dive into bottom cupboards to find ingredients, it might put you off from cooking completely. If you’re due for a kitchen revamp, ask your kitchen designer to incorporate a corner grocery cupboard. If this isn’t possible they might be able to come up with a viable solution.
